Lecce Area Guide

As you head west out of the Old City through Porta Napoli you immediately come to Obelisco, and the roundabout that surrounds it. Here you’ll find some of the main campus buildings of the Università del Salento and tonnes of fun bars, restaurants and pizzerias. If you carry on over the roundabout you’ll be on Via Taranto, which starts off as a thronged thoroughfare buzzing with activity, but as you head towards Borgo Pace slowly transforms (the further down you get) into a much quieter more everyday student neighbourhood high street. Finally, once you reach the roundabout at the end you’ll find everyone’s favourite (economy ) local landmark: Lidl.

To the north of Via Taranto is Lecce biggest park, Parco Belloluogo, as well as the old cemetery and then around into Santa Rosa.

To the south (of Via Taranto) is San Pio, a lovely quiet neighbourhood.
